News of Hyperkin's Smart Boy concept erupted across the geek plains of the internet over the last few days and what started as a April Fools joke appears to be coming to life. Chris Gallizzi, a product developer for Hyperkin seems to be the mastermind behind the Smart Boy; a device that will allow iPhone 6 Plus users to play real Game Boy and Game Boy colour carts through their iPhone. In a press release about the Smart Boy Chris said: "We wanted to create a retro device that can be easily adapted into any modern gamer's arsenal of devices," Wait. So I can use my iPhone 6 to play Six Golden Coins? The answer is "yes". Based on the mock up the carts slide in to the back of the Smart Boy allowing the game to be played through the iPhone 6 Plus' screen. This sounds really cool and I hope to see this device come to fruition. In terms of features the Smart Boy concept art shows an 8-way D-Pad along with a Start and Select button. The action buttons are also clearly visible but will they be labelled 'A' and 'B'? I'm also assuming the volume will be controlled via the iPhone? I'm certain we'll all learn about the fine details of the Smart Boy over the coming months.
There needs to be a piece of software that connects these two wonderful devices. Fortunately Hyperkin did confirm that the Smart Boy will have it's own app that will allow both devices to communicate. This looks and sounds like a 5* plan to me. What do some of you guys think? Additionally, the Smart Boy is rumoured to be coming in different colours too! The original Reddit thread whereby Chris Gallizzi announced the Smart Boy can be located here. This would actually make me buy an iPhone 6. I'd smile ear to ear with this new device.

I wonder why everything is always for the iPhone. While I don't hate Apple I believed their products were always overrated and their phones especially had some worrying flaws. Unfortunately my partner came back from the EE phone shop the other day having just rented a Apple iPad Air with 4G for £25 a month. Even to buy these pads are £300 to £400, a ridiculous amount of money. Having tried it out it's humble pie time. Compared to my previous experience of tablets it's operation is a revelation and it really is a couple of hundred pounds better than anything I've used before. Because of this I now understand why Jessica would be willing to buy a iPhone to use this device. I originally believed that one for Android would be a good idea but thinking about it with a clear head most Android phones come in a plethora of sizes and shapes which is where Apple wins out. For myself I'd still prefer a backlit Game Boy with some kind of Everdrive cartridge. I'm a bit of a traditionalist at heart.
