Retro Games! What are they? What era is retro? Who cares right?! I love retro games just as much as anybody. Why? Retro Gaming allows me to be transported back in time to those Childhood bedroom moments when we were all crowded around a 16" CRT TV waiting for a go on Street Fighter 2. Or maybe I am back in my friends watching them setup the Amiga 500 and then waiting for Lotus Turbo Challenge 3 to load. Gaming is life and that's why I like to hear from my readers, about their favourite retro games and series'. A Big thank you is in order to Sean (skijumpnose) for sharing his love of his favourite Retro Games below.
ZX Spectrum Games
Skool Daze on Spectrum - One of the first games i ever played and still one of the best, The nostalgia is strong with this one. Such an awesome idea to play as a schoolboy and just arse about writing on blackboards and fighting the other students! All the Dizzy games on Spectrum - Again they are classics especially Treasure Island Dizzy, Bit frustrating sometimes but still fun platform puzzle games. Fantastic Dizzy on Mega Drive is excellent too. NES Games Bubble Bobble: Nes - Always one of my favourite games of all time, Simple and fun blowing bubbles on enemies and turning them into fruit! And the spin offs are awesome - Rainbow Islands and Parasol Stars. Castlevania: Nes - What else can i say, It's Castlevania, Blew me away when i was a kid and still love it and love Super Castlevania IV on Snes. 16 Bit Games Micro Machines and Micro Machines 2: Snes - The most fun racing games ever, Especially Micro Machines 2, One track you race around a toilet seat! Would be an interesting obstacle on the track if you had to avoid a stream of piss hitting the seat! lol Super Mario All Stars on Snes - 4 Mario games in 1 cartridge is just epic and i prefer these versions to the Nes originals. Turtles Arcade Game and Turtles In Time - Well you have the Arcade cabinet of these 2 classics and Turtles In Time ported so well to the Snes! The Simpsons Arcade game - Shame it was never released on Snes or Mega Drive but there is a Commodore 64 version which is admirable but the Arcade original is brilliant. Alien Breed on Amiga - I could name tons of Amiga games like Sleepwalker, Cannon Fodder, The Chaos Engine but Alien Breed is tops for me, Love the atmosphere and just going around shooting aliens. Theme Park - Played this on Amiga, Snes and PS1 and PS1 is the definitive one for me, Could spend hours playing this and building the ultimate park. Mortal Kombat games - Best fighting games ever, Especially MKII on Snes, Sub Zero is my guy! Usually play as him in every MK game. Shame about that Mortal Kombat Mythologies game i played on PS1. Final Fight - One of the best beat em ups ever and the Snes version is ok but the Sega Cd version is the best, Just like the Arcade version and excellent soundtrack. Now over to you.
