I played a lot of video games in 1991. Sonic 1, Michel Jackson's Moonwalker and Altered Beast to name a few. The Sega Mega Drive was the absolute time sucker in our bedroom. Wonderboy III: Monster Lair was also released in Europe in the same year but I didn't play it until 1993. Wonderboy III: Monster Lair feels like a classic side scroller in the beginning with the added annoyance of the screen rolling automatically. I can't tell you how many times I died as a result of the friggin' screen pushing me off a floating platform! Nonetheless, Wonderboy III: Monster Lair kept me coming back for more in 1993 just as it does today. Mortal Kombat is one of the most prominent fighters of my generation and with the launch of Mortal Kombat X hitting next generation consoles, I found it quite fitting to pen my thoughts on the original titles. I had a Super Nintendo as a kid (ahem yes I preferred the Snes over the rival Mega Drive) so most of my kick ass memories.
News of Hyperkin's Smart Boy concept erupted across the geek plains of the internet over the last few days and what started as a April Fools joke appears to be coming to life. Chris Gallizzi, a product developer for Hyperkin seems to be the mastermind behind the Smart Boy; a device that will allow iPhone 6 Plus users to play real Game Boy and Game Boy colour carts through their iPhone. In a press release about the Smart Boy Chris said:
